Terri loves teaching this new craze in social painting! She graduated from Western Illinois University with a degree in Art Education. Terri has made a career out of making people have fun... for the past 40 years her ‘day job’ has been holding the position of Superintendent of Recreation at the Pekin Park District. Terri has recently retired, and can not wait to focus more of her time and energy at Leo's!
What started as friends coming to her home to paint, drink wine, and unwind has turned into a phenomenal painting experience for all who come to the paint parties.
Terri is no stranger to the downtown area, for 40 years her father, Leo Matthews, owned his real estate company at 408 Court Street. When the building came up for sale in 2015 Terri felt it was simply meant to be. She purchased it with dreams of protecting the integrity of this historic and nostalgic building. Her studio is ran out of the back room of the building, with parking along Elizabeth street. The front half is still used as its original office space.
Students have dubbed Terri as a cross between Bob Ross and Mr. Rogers, with her calming, and sometimes silly instruction to make students totally relaxed. Terri says the biggest hurdle to overcome is when the students come to class with reservations about their artistic abilities. She says the most rewarding part of teaching is when her students express themselves and create a beautiful piece of art... and it takes only about 10 minutes to get there!
The classes are set at a comfortable pace with each step of the process explained thoroughly. All her students become relaxed with giggles and laughs and are sure to enjoy the experience!
